Move & Groove with Downtown On the Go

"In April 2016, I attended my first Walk Tacoma event, put on by a group I'd never heard of, Downtown On the Go. One hour later, at the end of the walk, I asked to volunteer with this organization. Among the many services they perform, I particularly appreciate their work to expand and improve public transit. This endeavor is near to my heart, as I am visually challenged, but more importantly because good transit is so very important in getting many people to work, to school, to shopping, to medical appointments, and all of the necessary activities of life, which I am afraid too many people with cars and good incomes take for granted and never realize their importance to others. I am pleased and happy to volunteer for DOTG." - Steven Bird, volunteer since 2016

"I have been hosting Friday Forums for about 9 seasons. I keep coming back because we don’t seem to make time for real dialogue and conversations anymore. Friday Forums creates the space for real connection, learning and exchange of ideas that makes a community stronger, more resilient and able to address its big issues." - Tanisha Jumper, DOTG Friday Forums Host and Chief Communications Officer at Tacoma Public Schools

"DOTG's advocacy work is vital. Their team connects the community to the policy makers and amkes sure that people know what we're working on. Having community members show up to let us know how a particular policy benefits them (or not) makes for a better final product, which is invaluable to our work. In short, we can't build a multi-modal system that works for Tacomans without Downtown On the Go!" - Tacoma City Council Member Kristina Walker

"I love Downtown On The Go! I moved to Tacoma in 2015 and worked in the Hilltop neighborhood. My introduction to DOTG was at a walk in Wright Park. And after that one, I attended many more Tacoma Walks Events throughout the Downtown and beyond. What a great way to learn about my new home – history, arts, culture and more! I soon signed up to volunteer on the Walks - meeting people and getting connected to community. This year I gave up my car and rely on public transportation. I appreciate DOTG even more now. Their mission of advocacy for transportation options that are safe and affordable couldn’t be timelier for me. I look forward to more years of volunteering and more walk-abouts in Tacoma." - Eileen Cahill, volunteer since 2016
